The Westminster College Preschool Lab was recently granted accreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). This prestigious recognition has been achieved by only seven percent of early childhood programs nationwide.
Mardi Gras is coming to Westminster College Friday, Feb. 14, from 6-8 p.m. in Orr Lobby. Following the carnival the band "Allister" will perform in Orr Auditorium with opening act "December Sun."
Alpha Phi Omega, a national coed service fraternity at Westminster College, is sponsoring a "Valentines for Veterans of War" party Monday, Feb. 11, at 7 p.m. in Hillside Lobby.
"Paper, markers, glitter, glue, scissors&everything you need to make a Valentine will be available to make Valentines," said Lauren Perkins, sophomore elementary education major from Evans City and publicity chair for Alpha Phi Omega. "Then we will deliver them to a local veterans hospital."
Dr. Alan Gittis, Westminster College professor of psychology, and Dr. David Goldberg, Westminster College assistant professor of philosophy, recently attended the Society for Neuroscience conference in Atlanta.
The 2007 Iris Film Festival will showcase a short documentary produced and directed by Westminster College students.
Dr. James Rhoads, Westminster College associate professor of political science, and Dr. Shannon Smithey, Westminster assistant professor of political science, have published "Attitudes Toward Privacy and Security Five Years After 9/11" in The Journal of Human Subjectivity.
"The paper sought to explore more deeply attitudes concerning the long-standing tension between security and privacy, especially in this age of terrorism," Rhoads said. "Participants in the study ranked a set of statements drawn from conversation on the security-privacy debate. Data was then correlated and factor-analyzed, revealing three distinct viewpoints."
Fourteen Westminster College seniors will present their year-long research projects in psychology, occupational therapy, and neuroscience Thursday, Dec. 11, at 5:30 p.m. in Phillips Lecture Hall of the Hoyt Science Resources Center.
Westminster College business administration majors Daniel Argiro and Travis Leech ranked in the top 40 by achieving a 35.2% return on equity in The Business Strategy Game for the week ending Oct. 4.
