Dr. Kristianne Kalata Vaccaro, Westminster College visiting assistant professor of English, presented a paper at the 25th annual International Conference on Narrative April 8-11 in Cleveland.
The conference was sponsored by the International Society for the Study of Narrative and Case Western Reserve University.
Vaccaro's paper, "Balancing the Dramatic and Theatrical: Surrogate Narration in Fanny Kemble's Georgian Journal," discussed the narrative tensions that arise when Kemble, a white British actress who becomes a slave owner by marriage, sympathizes with and seeks to give voice to her abused female slaves.
Vaccaro, a 2000 Westminster graduate who joined the faculty in 2005, earned a master's and Ph.D. from Duquesne University.
