Light and Shadow in the Yosemite Valley, an overture for orchestra composed by Dr. Daniel Perttu, Westminster College assistant professor of music, is included on Light and Shadow, a nationally and internationally reviewed CD that is being played on radio stations across the country, in Canada, and in Europe.

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Twenty-eight Westminster College students in two sections of the Fall Semester English Language Learner course participated in teaching migrant workers and their families the English language.
Thirty Westminster College students will present their research at the annual Undergraduate Research Symposium Saturday, April 24, from 8-10:30 a.m. in Hoyt Science Resources Center.
"We will have refreshments in the first-floor lobby, then presentations in rooms 150, 152, 166, 228, and Phillips Lecture Hall," said Dr. Ann Throckmorton, associate professor of biology and coordinator of the event. "The symposium serves as a means to recognize the accomplishments of Westminster's students, and provides the opportunity for students to present the results of their research and to learn what their fellow students have done. This year's event involves 30 students from 11 different majors."

The Westminster College Drinko Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning will host "Twenty Legal Standards School Administrators Must Understand to Operate a School" Thursday, March 17, from 8:30 a.m.-noon in the Lakeview Room of the McKelvey Campus Center.
The Drinko Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning was developed to advance world-class teaching at Westminster and enrich K-12 education through outreach programs for area educators.
The workshop is presented by Dr. Chet Kent, J.D., associate executive secretary for the Tri-State Area School Study Council and author of "School House Legal Primer," a monthly analysis of legal issues sent to 135 school districts. He will guide the participants through a discussion and application of 20 legal principles that deal with everyday school situations that principals face during the school year. The program is designed for new school leaders and administrators with less than five years experience, or as refresher course for veteran administrators.
The event is sponsored by the Tri-State Area School Study Council Department of Administrative Policy Studies at the School of Education of the University of Pittsburgh in collaboration with the Drinko Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning at Westminster College.

The Westminster College Department of Mathematics and Computer Science recently hosted a high school programming contest.
Ten teams from five area high schools, Blackhawk, Greenville, Laurel, Mercer, and Mohawk, attended this year's contest. The teams, consisting of three or four students each, worked for two and a half hours on six computer programming problems.
Students submitted solutions and received feedback from the judges electronically, while an electronic score sheet displayed updated results throughout the contest. Scoring for each problem was based on elapsed time as well as the number of incorrect submissions.
Dr. John Bonomo, associate professor of computer science, designed and coordinated the program. He was assisted by Dr. David Shaffer, assistant professor of computer science, and two students: Colin Dean, a junior computer science major from Volant, and Ryan Moore, a sophomore computer science major from Darlington. Bonomo has been involved with programming contests on both the regional and international level. He recently served as a judge for the International Programming Contest, which was held in Shanghai in March.

General Wesley Clark earned the Democratic presidential nomination and Dennis Kucinich was tabbed as the vice presidential candidate tonight at the Westminster College Mock Convention - the second oldest of its kind in the nation.
The inaugural "Adventures in Leadership" for first-year students was completed Aug. 24, but it left a lasting impression on the participants.
