Summer Zickefoose, Westminster College visiting assistant professor of art, will speak on her work at Faires Faculty Forum Wednesday, Feb. 23, at 11:40 a.m. in the Sebastian Mueller Theater of the McKelvey Campus Center.
In her presentation, "Cockleburs and Pleasantries," Zickefoose will share the influence of rural American culture, landscape, and domestic spaces on her sculptures and performance art projects. Research includes an examination of Midwestern women's diaries and journals; investigation of rural vernacular art forms; and a trip to Belfast, Northern Ireland, for a cup of tea.
Zickefoose, who joined the faculty in 2010, earned undergraduate degrees from the University of Iowa and a master of fine art degree from the University of Florida.
Faculty Forum was established in 1990 by Dr. Barbara Faires, Westminster professor of mathematics emerita, during her term as Dean of the College and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Faculty members from all disciplines volunteer to present lectures on their current research, artistic productions, and/or scholarship of teaching and learning. Each forum presents new ideas with innovative lecture techniques.
