NEW WILMINGTON, PA – The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra at Westminster inaugural series opens at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, in Orr Auditorium on Westminster’s campus and tickets are still available.

The 2018-2019 Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra at Westminster season opens with “Bernstein in Pittsburgh” under the direction of Manfred Honeck and features mezzo soprano Jennifer Johnson Cano.

Honeck will lead the orchestra in a centennial celebration of the birth of American composer Leonard Bernstein. The evening will be filled with pieces Bernstein conducted with the Pittsburgh Symphony early in his career, including works by Beethoven, Haydn and Stravinsky, as well as Bernstein’s own First Symphony, which the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra premiered in 1944.

On Monday, March 25, 2019, Honeck and the symphony will return to Westminster with violinist Julian Rachlin. The program will feature the beloved melodies of Grieg’s beguiling Peer Gynt — “Morning Mood” and “In the Hall of the Mountain King” — and Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto.

The symphony will perform in Westminster’s Orr Auditorium, a 1,700-seat concert hall, where Westminster’s various music ensembles and guest artists from the Celebrity Series regularly perform.

The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra at Westminster series is sponsored by Steelite International.
