Westminster College Wind Ensemble presents virtual concert

The Westminster College Wind Ensemble will perform a virtual concert, “Music from the Chamber, Music From the Hall,” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13.

There will be no live audience due to campus COVID-19 protocols, but the concert can be viewed by livestream at https://youtu.be/E_oOoHhQXxs.

The first half of the evening will include performances from eight chamber ensembles all drawn from the students within the Wind Ensemble.  For the second half, the entire Wind Ensemble will perform. All ensembles are under the direction of Dr. R. Tad Greig.

The program includes “Il Maestoso” by Wendel Yuponce, a piece dedicated to Greig and the Wind Ensemble; a suite from the opera “Merry Mount” by Howard Hanson; “Lead on O King Eternal” arranged by Jim Swearingen and featuring the Westminster College Chamber Singers under the direction of Dr. Andrew Withington; and Alfred Reed’s “Alleluia Laudamus Te,” including first-year music major Hunter Peterson of Russell, Pa., on pipe organ.

“At the beginning of the school year, we talked about being the example of safety in our pursuit of musical creation, and the students have been amazing in their desire to keep each other safe and to work with whatever limitations came from our current circumstances,” said Greig, who also serves as director of instrumental activities and professor of music. “We had customized bell covers made, disinfectant spray is available for the instruments, we created special distancing configurations for safe performance—which changed multiple times—and they never complained. They were driven to find a way to make music and I could not be more proud.”
