Westminster College will host a pipe organ concert celebrating the contributions of female composers at 12:15 p.m. Friday, March 20, in the Wallace Memorial Chapel.
College organist Mitchell Stecker will be accompanied by Westminster’s Chamber Singers, under the direction of Dr. Ryan Keeling, to perform a selection by contemporary Italian composer Carlotta Ferrari. Works by Christa Rakich, Anna-Amalia von Preussen, Nancy Galbraith, Jeanne Demessieux and additional artists will also be featured.
Stecker, who joined Westminster in 2024 as organist and carillonneur, is an active composer whose works have premiered throughout the United States and Europe. Outside of Westminster, he serves as director of music and liturgy at Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church in Pittsburgh and directs the 50-voice Festival Chorale in Washington, Pa. He previously served as a carillon fellow at Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales, Fla.
Stecker holds a Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Arts in linguistics and a Master of Music in historical musicology with a concentration in sacred music, all from the University of Florida. He also studied at the Royal Carillon School Jef Denyn in Mechelen, Belgium.
The performance, honoring Women's History Month, is free and open to the public.
