NEW WILMINGTON, PA – Westminster College will host Dr. Sherri Mason as a guest speaker on plastic pollution at 12:40 p.m. Thursday, May 2, in the Dietz-Sullivan Lecture Hall located in the College’s Hoyt Sciences Center.

Mason, sustainability coordinator at Penn State Behrend, will delve into her internationally renowned research on plastic pollution in her lecture “The Perils of Plastic.” Though plastic seems to be everywhere from bags and bottles to clothing and cars, the lecture will answer questions such as what plastic is, where it comes from and where plastic products go after they are used.

Mason is a 2018 Heinz Award winner in Public Policy and a 2016 EPA Environmental Champion.

Mason’s visit is sponsored by Lawrence and Mercer County Alliance for Aquatic Resources Monitoring (ALLARM), a water quality research and outreach group based at Westminster.

This lecture is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Dr. Helen Boylan, professor of chemistry and director of the Center for the Environment at Westminster College, at 724-946-6293 or boylanhm@westminster.edu.
