This week, Westminster College’s School of Music was represented at the annual Tri-State Vocal competition sponsored by the National Association of Teachers of Singing.

“We are pleased that our students not only participate in this opportunity to compete and to get professional feedback on their performances, but also are active in their profession outside of the college,” said Dr. Anne Bentz, associate professor of music.

More than 70 singers from the Tri- State area (West Virginia, Western PA and Eastern Ohio) took part in this all-day event at Slippery Rock University. Westminster students included Joseph Spurio, Becca Bly, Mark Hockenberry, Lauren Faber, Olivia Schmidt, and Rhiannon Griffiths.

Students competed against others in both classical and musical theater categories based on their number of years of study. Third place titles went to Westminster students, including Spurio in the junior Men Division (studio of William Ambert, adjunct faculty) and Bly in the junior Women category (studio of Bentz).
