Westminster College will host an old-fashioned Independence Day celebration with a free concert and fireworks Saturday, July 3, at 7:30 p.m. at Brittain Lake.
Gene DeCaprio, director of Westminster's Celebrity Series and master of ceremonies for the concert, said, "This event is recognized as the region's premier July 4th celebration."
This year marks the 21st annual July 3 concert featuring the River City Brass Band playing a variety of patriotic, religious, folk, semi-classical, and popular Broadway selections. Attendance in recent years has reached 10,000, so early arrival is suggested for this family-oriented event. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs for seating, as well as picnic baskets and refreshments. Food vendors will be on site.
The evening will be capped by a fireworks display provided by Pyrotecnico.
In case of rain, the concert will be held in Anderson Amphitheater.
Sponsors for this year's event include: Caroline Knox Memorial Trust Fund; Westminster College; Jameson Health System; Florence Ayers; Lawrence County Commissioners; New Wilmington Borough; Wilmington Township, Mercer County; Wilmington Township, Lawrence County; Rotary Club of New Wilmington; and Attorney Thomas Shumaker.
