Independence Day Celebration at Westminster College

About the Independence Day Celebration

Westminster College is hosting its annual Independence Day celebration on Friday, July 3, at Brittain Lake on campus, welcoming the community to join in this festive tradition.

Now in its 35th year, this beloved, family-friendly event begins at 7:30 p.m. with a live performance by the River City Brass Band, featuring a lively mix of favorites with a patriotic flair. Guests are encouraged to arrive early to secure a great spot, bring a lawn chair or blanket, and enjoy a variety of food trucks, which will begin serving at 6 p.m.

The evening will conclude with a spectacular fireworks display by Pyrotecnico, beginning at approximately 9:15 p.m.

This event is free and open to the public. A free-will offering will be collected.

Traffic & Exit Plan After Fireworks

To ensure a safe and efficient departure following the Independence Day fireworks, Westminster College will implement a directed traffic flow pattern across campus.

Immediately after the conclusion of the fireworks, all vehicles will be guided by campus safety and local law enforcement. Traffic along McClure’s Run and surrounding roadways will operate in one-way patterns away from campus to keep vehicles moving and reduce congestion.

  • Vehicles parked near Burry Stadium, the Hoyt Science Center, and surrounding lots will be directed toward the main campus exits using clearly marked routes.
  • Westminster Drive will operate as two outbound lanes in the same direction to increase traffic flow leaving campus.
  • Once you reach East Neshannock Avenue (Route 208):
    • The left lane MUST turn left heading West toward Youngstown and New Castle
    • The right lane MUST turn right heading East toward Volant and New Castle
  • Certain intersections will be temporarily restricted or controlled to prevent cross-traffic and allow continuous outbound flow.
  • Officers and event staff will be stationed throughout campus—please follow all posted signage and directions.
  • Pedestrian safety remains a priority; please drive slowly and remain alert for foot traffic.

We appreciate your patience as everyone exits campus. These measures are designed to help all guests leave safely and as efficiently as possible.
