Westminster musicians will be featured at international trumpet conference

A select group of Westminster musicians have been invited to take the stage as guest performers at the 2022 International Trumpet Guild (ITG) Conference in San Antonio, Texas, this summer.

Members of the Westminster Trumpet Ensemble were selected to perform at the start of a featured conference session on Thursday, June 2, as well as perform at the Festival of Trumpets Recital on Saturday, June 4. Students in the ensemble include freshmen Isabella Dienes of Rochester Mills, Pa., and Dalton Stoops of Warren, Ohio; sophomore Matthew Claypoole of McKees Rocks, Pa.; and juniors Hunter Hoag of Kane, Pa., Charles Lisella of Harmony, Pa., Madison Muller-Howell of Rimersburg, Pa., and Cameron Stahl of Beaver, Pa.

Additionally, a Westminster College faculty-alumni collaboration will be featured during the New Works Recital at the conference. Dr. Timothy Winfield, associate professor of music, and Dr. Hanna Chung, piano instructor, will perform a piece by Westminster alumnus composer Cody Ortz ’15.

“…And Streetlights Will Fade,” a 15-minute programmatic work for trumpet and piano, is based on a short story modeled after Edgar Allen Poe’s writing. Winfield and Chung premiered the piece in Westminster’s Wallace Memorial Chapel in January 2022.

Two recitals featuring the Trumpet Ensemble, Winfield and Chung will be held to help fund the summer trip. The first is scheduled for 3 p.m., Sunday, March 27, at the Sharon First United Methodist Church in Sharon, Pa., while the second recital will be held at 6 p.m., Thursday, May 19, at the First Presbyterian Church in Beaver, Pa.

The recitals are open to the public. Admission fee is $10 per person and all proceeds will go toward the ITG conference costs for the ensemble.
