Dr. David Barner, associate professor of broadcast communications, and Bradley Weaver, instructor of broadcast communications, will discuss the advances in Westminster's radio station at Faculty Forum Wednesday, Nov. 9, at 11:45 a.m. in the Sebastian Mueller Theater located in the McKelvey Campus Center.
The Westminster College radio station, WWNW, 88.9-FM, can now be heard on the Web at www.titanradio.net.
"Now our programs can be heard by Titan sports fans anywhere in the world, and parents of broadcasting students can hear their children on the air without having to drive to campus," Barner said.
The station is also using the new Web address as a means of distributing local news. By going to the Titan radio Web page, users can choose local news stories many with sound and video.
"Creating news stories for the Web positions our students for the future," said Weaver said. "The major news media are all extensively using Web technology."
Barner is also the chair of the Department of Communication Studies, Theatre, and Art. He has been with Westminster College since 1981, earned his undergraduate and master's degrees from Shippensburg, and his Ed.D. from the University of Pittsburgh.
Weaver, who has been with Westminster college since 2000, earned his undergraduate degree from Alderson-Broaddus College and his master's from the University of Kansas.
Barner and Weaver's presentation is part of the weekly Faculty Forum. Established in 1990, Faculty Forum serves as a venue for the exchange of ideas and information among Westminster College faculty. Speakers present their research, teaching ideas, lectures, performances, special programs, and uses of technology to keep faculty informed about the work of colleagues from many disciplines.
