More than 200 alumni and friends and 300 students gathered on Saturday, Sept. 16, for Westminster College’s seventh Professional Networking Symposium (PNS), an annual event that encourages relationships between Westminster students and working professionals.

Summer Zickefoose, fine art faculty member at Westminster College, has work showing in three exhibitions this Fall. Zickefoose has a sculpture in the 'Both Artist and Mother' exhbit at the Loft Gallery at Red Lodge Clay Center in Red Lodge Montana; a sculpture in the 11th Annual HWD juried sculpture exhibition at the Rosewood Gallery in Kettering, Ohio—for which Zickefoose won the juror's choice award; and she is part of a four-person show, 'Remains', at the Philadelphia Art Alliance in Downtown Philadelphia.

The 33rd consecutive International Society for the Scientific Study of Subjectivity meeting proved to quite eventful for Dr. James C. Rhoads, professor of political science. At the meeting held Sept. 7-9 in Glasgow, Scotland at Glasgow Caledonian University, Rhoads presented two papers with his co-authors and was elected president of the Society.

On Sept. 10, students in The Battle for Public Memory, a class in the Honors Program sequence taught by Dr. Shannon Smithey and Dr. Angela Lahr, took a day trip to the Flight 93 memorial located in Stoystown, PA. The class focuses on society’s memory of the past and its descriptions of history, and how these descriptions and the collective memory shapes society’s future.

If you were to ask alumna Jennifer Gandolfi how she landed her current job before graduating in the Spring of 2017, she would attribute her success to what she calls the “Westminster network.” In October, Jennifer begins her journey as a staff auditor for Crowe Horwath LLP, an accounting firm that provides a range of services to financial institution and other clients in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Thanks to the support of a committed professor and a helping hand from a recent alum, Jennifer is a direct outcome of the extensive network she believes makes Westminster unique.

Hurricane Harvey left the people of Southern Texas and Louisiana with 27 trillion gallons of rain, $90 billion worth of damage and 30,000 people without a home, according to CNN and Forbes. As Hurricane Irma continues to slash through Florida, The Guardian reports the storm already caused the relocation of over 160,000 people.

As part of its 2017 national concert tour, “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band will perform on October, 5 at 7:30 p.m. in Orr Auditorium at Westminster College. The concert is free and open to the public. This event is sponsored by the Westminster College Celebrity Series.

Washington Monthly 2017 College Rankings placed Westminster College in the top 50 best liberal arts colleges in the nation. Westminster was also identified as a “best bang for the buck” college in the Northeast region of the United States.
