Music Professor's Composition Aired on Public Radio

Dr. Daniel Perttu's recent composition, "To Spring - An Overture," was aired on WCNY, the public radio station based in Syracuse, Utica, and Watertown, NY. Perttu is an associate professor of music, and currently serves as chair of the Westminster's School of Music.

Westminster Wind Ensemble Earns Distinction from Collegiate Band Directors National Association

The Westminster College Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. R. Tad Greig, earned another distinction with the Collegiate Band Directors National Association. After their submission was peer-reviewed by the leadership of the Eastern Region, the Westminster College Wind Ensemble was selected as a top small college ensemble in the East. As a result, Greig will travel to Yale University for the CBDNA Conference and present a session related to the beginnning of the emsemble and its many successes over the years.

School of Music Presents Oboe and Bassoon Studio Recital

The Westminster College School of Music is having an oboe and bassoon recital performed by students and faculty on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 12 p.m. in the Wallace Memorial Chapel. The recital features several interpretations of the pastoral, a style which presents a romanticized version of rural country life, and evokes images of shepherds and bagpipes. Admission is free.

The Westminster College Jazz Ensemble presents their Spring Music with Friends on Sunday, April 30th at 3pm, in Berlin Lounge located in the McKelvey Campus Center. The Jazz Ensemble will be joined by the Westminster College Chamber Singers, under the direction of Dr. Samuel Barbara, and the Conneaut Area Blue Note Jazz Band, under the direction of Mr. Glenn Cameron.

Dr. Melinda Crawford Perttu Publishes Violinist’s Guide to Scottish Fiddling

Dr. Melinda H. Crawford Perttu, assistant professor of music and former U.S. National Scottish Fiddling Champion, recently published a book entitled "A Violinist's Guide to Scottish Fiddling," published by Mel Bay Publications.  Mel Bay is a leading publisher of music books that offer instruction in various instrumental musical genres.

There will be performances from the Westminster College Jazz Ensemble, Chamber Singers and Westminster College Symphony Orchestra. The music festival is free and open to all.

Westminster College Combined Choirs Present Spring Concert

All four Westminster College choirs will be represented at the concert, which will also serve as a farewell to the graduating seniors. The concert is Sunday, April 23, 2017 at 3 p.m. in the Wallace Memorial Chapel at Westminster College; free and open to all.
