Westminster professor to guest conduct the Warren Packard Band

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. –  Dr. R. Tad Greig, director of instrumental activities and professor of music at Westminster College, will guest conduct the Warren Packard Concert Band at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, at the W.D. Packard Music Hall in Warren, Ohio.

The concert, “Something Old, Something New,” will feature the music of Morton Gould, Charles Wood, Alfred Reed, Joshua Hobbs, Sammy Nestico, Henry Fillmore and Michael Markowski.
 
Dr. Timothy Winfield, assistant professor of music at Westminster, will be featured on trumpet and flugelhorn in the second performance of Hobbs’ “Keystone Landscapes.” The Westminster College Wind Ensemble premiered this piece last March.

Greig, who joined the Westminster faculty in 1993, earned an undergraduate degree from Grove City College, master’s degree from Youngstown State University and Ph.D. from Kent State University.  At Westminster, he directs the Titan Marching Band and conducts the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band. He is a regular guest conductor, lecturer and guest speaker throughout the eastern United States. As a trombonist, he is a member of the Fine Arts Brass Quintet and also performs throughout Western Pennsylvania and Eastern Ohio.

Winfield earned an undergraduate from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, a master’s from Ithaca College and a doctorate in trumpet performance from the University of Southern California. In addition to his teaching duties at Westminster, he also directs the Jazz Ensemble. He is principal trumpet with the Butler Symphony Orchestra and has held positions with the Billings (Montana) Symphony Orchestra and the Boulder (Colorado) Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed with the Pittsburgh Opera Orchestra and the Canton, South Florida, Westmoreland, Johnstown, Steamboat Springs, Corona and Aspen orchestras.
