The Foster Art Gallery and the Department of English and Visual Arts at Westminster College will host a gallery reception to celebrate the current exhibition “Elegy,” by mixed media artist and landscape painter Lindsay DeLullo of Poland, Ohio. The reception will be held at 11:40 a.m., Monday, Aug. 31, in the Foster Art Gallery in Patterson Hall.

Composed of large-scale paintings and mixed media components, “Elegy” traverses the bereavement, the ephemeral and the fleeting through fragmentation, juxtaposition and reverie. The exhibit will be on display through Friday, Sept. 18.

“I developed a strong sense of awe that metamorphosed into an intimate relationship with the natural world. My relationship with the landscape of Poland, Ohio, is related to the lifetime I have spent exploring, discovering and daydreaming about my memories and encounters within the town’s idyllic landscape,” said DeLullo. “As I grew alongside this environment, my beloved scenery transfigured—trees that had watched me since birth toppled, the creekside eroded and many turned a blind eye. I began to grieve what once was—the impermanent nature of the environment and its unforgiving cycle of life bred inaccessibility and loss.”

DeLullo has been featured in over 30 group exhibitions and eight solo shows and has collaborated on several murals in the Youngstown area. Her work explores themes of memory and transformation through a variety of media. She currently serves as registrar at the Butler Institute of American Art, secretary of the Friends of Poland Municipal Forest and secretary of the Poland Historical Society.

The gallery reception and exhibition are free and open to the public. The Foster Art Gallery, located in Patterson Hall on Westminster’s campus, is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
