Westminster College Band Director Selected Conductor of North Pittsburgh Symphonic Band

Dr. R. Tad Greig, Westminster College professor of music and director of bands, was selected conductor and musical director of the North Pittsburgh Symphonic Band (NPSB) by the band’s board of directors and musicians.

The 85-member ensemble, formerly the North Suburban Symphonic Band, was formed in 1992 by Warren Mercer, band director at North Hills High School. It includes Pittsburgh area music educators and community members who share a love of music.

“I have been aware of this fine ensemble since Mr. Mercer started it,” Greig said. “They perform at a very high level and program high-quality music that includes standards from the wind band repertoire as well as music from movies, shows and more. They provide the Pittsburgh area with wonderful concert opportunities throughout the year.”

The NPSB’s first concert of the season will be Sunday, Oct. 23, at 3 p.m. in the auditorium of the Greater Masonic Hall on Cemetery Lane, Pittsburgh. Tickets are available online at www.npsband.org or at the door.

Greig, who has been with Westminster since 1995, directs Westminster’s “Titan” Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble and award-winning Wind Ensemble.
