Westminster College will host Dr. Rachel Vanderhill, author and assistant professor of political science at Wolford College, at 3:40 p.m. Thursday, April 9 in Mueller Theater, McKelvey Campus Center. The event is open to the public.

Her discussion, “Living in the Borderlands: Ukraine Between Russia and the EU,” will focus on the events in Ukraine leading up to the current crisis and conflict with pro-Russian separatists. Vanderhill earned a doctoral degree from the University of Virginia.

Vanderhill is the author of several scholarly articles on the post-Soviet region and on the ability of authoritarian government to resist pressures for democratization.  Her book Promoting Authoritarianism Abroad, was published by Lynne Rienner Publishers in 2013. She also co-edited The International Dimensions of Authoritarian Persistence: Lessons from Post-Soviet States (Lexington Press) with Michael E.
