Westminster College will welcome alumni, families, students and friends back to campus Oct. 2-3 for Homecoming & Reunion Weekend, featuring class reunions, alumni awards, athletic events, campus tours, special exhibitions, a worship service and an all-campus celebration leading up to the Titan football game against the Case Western Reserve Spartans.
The weekend will bring together alumni from across the decades, including members of the classes of 1966, 1971, 1976, 2001 and clusters representing the classes of 1980-82, 1995-97 and 2015-17.
Homecoming Weekend will begin Friday, Oct. 2, with opportunities for alumni to reconnect with Westminster and explore what is new on campus. Highlights include open seating in current academic courses, a historical photo display in McGill Library, an alumni art exhibition in the Foster Art Gallery and an open house at the College’s Cultural Center.
Friday evening will feature the annual Alumni Awards Reception and Dinner. The Westminster Alumni Association will recognize Thomas O’Shane ’69, Arthur “Skip” Winter ’73 and Bryan Hooks ’01 with the Alumni Citation Award. William James “Jimmy” Newman ’16 will receive the Outstanding Young Alumni Award and current senior Ava Karpa ’27 will receive the Rising Titan Award.
The evening also will include a free Dance Theater performance in Orr Auditorium, along with reunion gatherings and other alumni events.
On Saturday morning, members of the Class of 1976 will host a worship service in Wallace Memorial Chapel, providing an opportunity for alumni, students, families and friends to gather in worship and reflection as part of the Homecoming celebration.
Saturday’s schedule will offer alumni and guests a variety of ways to experience Westminster, including a campus walking tour highlighting Hoyt Science Center, home to the new Harms Center for the Environment, Maurer Atrium, and the high-fidelity nursing simulation lab which features programmable manikins and anatomy tablets.
The Homecoming Welcome Center will be open in the TUB, while the alumni awardee display and historical photo exhibition will continue throughout the morning.
A number of alumni athletic events also are scheduled, including alumni games for lacrosse, volleyball and softball, as well as a return of the alumni marching band.
From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, the Homecoming Hot Spot will bring the Westminster community together for an all-campus celebration along the creek near the new Hoyt entrance.
The event will feature live music, photos with the Titan, an introduction of the Homecoming court, the Titan Marching Band and cheerleaders, food trucks, honey sampling with the Westminster Bee Company, games, a bouncy house, a traveling balloonist and face painter, free popcorn and more.
Representatives from academic schools, student organizations and campus clubs also will be on hand.
The Titan Marching Band and cheerleaders will lead the crowd toward Burry Stadium ahead of the football game.
Westminster football will host Case Western at 1 p.m. Saturday at Burry Stadium. Game-day activities will include tailgating, the crowning of the Homecoming king and queen, alumni and student organization gatherings and appearances by the Titan Marching Band.
Game tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and are cash-only.
The Westminster Cable Network (WCN) will telecast the game on local Armstrong and Comcast cable systems and it will also stream live at www.wcnlive.com. Titan Radio will also broadcast the game on 88.9 FM and online at www.titanradiolive.com.
Following the game, alumni will continue their reunions and gatherings throughout the area, while Westminster women’s volleyball will host Chatham at 5:30 p.m. in Buzz Ridl Gymnasium.
