Mathematics Professor to Speak at Faculty Forum

Posted on Friday, April 25, 2008

Dr. Pamela Richardson, Westminster College assistant professor of mathematics, will present "Nonassociative Algebra (Or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Parentheses)" at the final spring semester Faires Faculty Forum on Wednesday, April 30, at 11:40 a.m. in the Sebastian Mueller Theater in the McKelvey Campus Center.

Richardson will share what a mathematician actually does when conducting research, and introduce the audience to nonassociative algebra-a "super" branch of abstract mathematics.

Faculty Forum was established in 1990 by Dr. Barbara Faires, Westminster professor of mathematics, during her term as Dean of the College and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Faculty members from all disciplines volunteer to present lectures on their current research, artistic productions, and/or scholarship of teaching and learning. Each forum presents new ideas with innovative lecture techniques.

Richardson, who has been with Westminster since 2006, earned an undergraduate degree from Bowling Green State University and Ph.D. from the University of Virginia.
