Alumni Will ’53 and Carol Jean (Young) ’62 Maurer have committed another gift of more than $1 million to Westminster College to support academic programming, strengthen student opportunities and enhance their longstanding scholarship at the College.
“Will and Carol Jean Maurer’s extraordinary generosity continues to shape the future of Westminster College,” said Dr. Kathy Brittain Richardson, president of Westminster College. “We are deeply grateful for their continued support and their enduring commitment to creating opportunities for our students.”
The Maurers’ philanthropy has played a significant role in enhancing campus facilities, expanding student resources and strengthening Westminster’s academic offerings. Their latest gift continues that impact, further advancing the College’s mission and its commitment to student success.
Two years ago, the Maurers made a gift exceeding $1 million in support of the renovation and expansion of Hoyt Science Center, hoping to inspire others to support the project. Their continued generosity reflects a deep and enduring dedication to Westminster and its students.
The Maurers, who reside in Rostraver Township in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, both earned Bachelor of Science degrees from Westminster—Mr. Maurer in economics in 1953 and Mrs. Maurer in business administration in 1962. Longtime supporters of the College, they have contributed to numerous campus initiatives, including the construction of the Berlin Village townhouses, renovations to Burry Stadium and the establishment of the Class of 1953 Reunion Fund.
A portion of their recent gift will also strengthen support for the Will R. Maurer II ’53 and Carol Jean (Young) Maurer ’62 Scholarship, which provides assistance to incoming first-year students from Belle Vernon Area High School or Elizabeth Forward High School.
“Will and Carol Jean Maurer have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to Westminster College and its students through their continued generosity,” said Nick McIntire, vice president for institutional advancement. “Their leadership support helps ensure that Westminster can continue to grow, innovate and create new opportunities for future generations of students.”
