Westminster College BirdTok students will host a community bird walk from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Friday, April 24, inviting campus and community members to experience spring bird migration.

The free, beginner-friendly walk will begin at the dock at Brittain Lake on Westminster’s campus and will highlight bird species found within the College’s certified wildlife sanctuary spaces. The event is part of the interdisciplinary BirdTok cluster, which combines Biology of Birds and Digital Media Essentials and focuses on bird identification, conservation and science storytelling on social media.

“You start noticing the sounds, movement and different species around you. Being able to share that experience with the community is what makes this event special,” said Dr. Kerri Cornell Duerr, professor and director of the Harms Center for the Environment.

Duerr said the event gives participants a chance to slow down and engage with nature.

“This is a great opportunity to learn about birds while spending time outdoors,” Duerr said.

The event is free and open to the public. Participants should wear comfortable shoes and may bring binoculars if available. No experience is necessary.

Reservations are not required but appreciated.  Reservations can be made by emailing Duerr at duerrkc@westminster.edu, co-cluster instructor Brad Weaver at weaverbl@westminster.edu or visiting this link.
