ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: New Head Coaches Ryan Francis '15 and David Richards '09

Westminster College Athletics welcomes back two of its own: Ryan Francis ’15 and David Richards ’09, who are returning to campus as head coaches. After making their mark on the field and on the court as student-athletes, Francis and Richards are now stepping up to lead the next generation of Titans, bringing their love for the game — and for their alma mater — full circle. Whether you're meeting them for the first time or just catching up, here are some fun facts about the newest Titan coaches.

Ryan Francis ’15 M.Ed '19, Head Coach, Titans Men’s Soccer
Hometown: Harwick, PA

Major: Economics

1. Biggest life lesson/takeaway you learned during college?
Time flies. Make sure you enjoy it.

2. What was your go-to study spot on campus?
The third floor of the library.

3. Favorite food/meal at WC? 
The Asian rice bowl from WOW (at the time, WOW was the Titan Club dining area)

4. Name a professor(s)/coach you had a big impact on your life? 
Rotua Lumbantobing (assistant professor of economics) and the G man of course! Girish Thakar

5. What is one piece of advice you would give to WC grads?
Keep in touch with your friends. Come back and stay involved with WC, there are several opportunities to share your experiences with students and student-athletes around campus today!

6. What message do you have for the WC men’s soccer program alumni?
We will work to keep the winning tradition going and keep it a program you will all be proud of. Also, come back and support the program!

David Richards ’09, Head Coach, Titans Men’s Basketball
Hometown: New Castle, PA
Major: Financial Economics

1. What was your first job after graduating WC?
Video Coordinator for the Robert Morris University Men's Basketball Team

2. What was your go-to study spot on campus?
The Tub and the library

3. Favorite food/meal at WC?
The spicy chicken sandwich from the Tub.

4. Name a coach you had a big impact on your life?
My college assistant coach, a 1995 graduate Ralph Blundo (he also played basketball at WC).

5. Which of your college roommates and friends do you still keep in contact with?
That's a long list. I keep in touch with majority of my roommates, teammates and classmates.

6. What message would you like to share with the men’s basketball alumni?
We are going to build a culture of hard work, accountability, toughness and togetherness. Every time we step on the floor, we will compete and represent Westminster the right way. Come check us out! It will be a product you will be proud of! We want the alumni to be a big part of this program!
