School of Music presents chamber music recital

The Westminster College School of Music will present a chamber music recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, in Wallace Memorial Chapel on the college campus. The concert is free and open to the public.

The Trumpet Ensemble will open the evening with a performance of “Durrenhorn Passage” by Kevin McKee. The String Quintet’s program will include String Quartet No. 1 by Ignaz Pleyel and Robert Schumann’s “Der Smetterling (The Butterfly).” The Market Street Brass Quintet will present Robert Nagel’s arrangement of Ludwig Maurer’s Three Pieces and Brandon Ridenour’s “Lament.” The Westminster College Woodwind Quintet will perform “Adagio for English Horn” by Anton Reicha and Georges Bizet’s “Habanera” from Carmen. The String Quartet will perform Lynne Latham’s arrangement of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 3. Bugs Bower’s Duet No. 4 will be performed by the Saxophone Duo, and the Trumpet Quintet will present “Metallic Fury” by Erik Morales. The Recorder Ensemble will perform Jeremy Beckinger’s arrangement of Morgan Barnes’ “Westminster Hymn,” as well as “Under the Sea” by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman.

The Barbershop Club vocalists will end the evening with Andrew Withington’s arrangement of Barnes’ “Westminster Hymn,” “Sweet, Sweet Roses of Morn” by Oscar F. Jones and Martin S. Peake and arranged by Floyd Connett, and “Birthday” by Bob Greensberg and Julien Neel.

Kole Alcorn, who sings lead with the Barbershop Club, is a first-year psychology and neuroscience double major from Eau Claire, Pa.
Amber Cepec, a violinist with the String Quartet and String Quintet, is a sophomore music performance and accounting double major from Freeport, Pa.
Charles Lisella plays trumpet with the Market Street Brass Quintet and is a member of the Trumpet Ensemble, the Recorder Ensemble and is a baritone with the Barbershop Club. He is a senior music education major from Harmony, Pa.
