NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College Celebrity Series will present The Tenors Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 7:30 p.m. in Orr Auditorium.
Westminster College Environmental Symposium Announces Award Winners
Westminster College students won numerous awards in December at the Student Symposium on the Environment. The event was hosted by Westminster Environmental Programs and co-sponsored by the Slippery Rock Watershed Coalition. Awards were sponsored by Stream Restoration, Inc.
Westminster Professor Discusses Cluster Courses at American Sociological Meeting
Dr. Kristin Park, associate professor of sociology at Westminster College, recently discussed cluster courses at the American Sociological Association annual meeting.
"At the meeting, 'Weaving the Tapestry: Teaching with Other Disciplines,' I discussed my experiences with Westminster's inquiry and cluster classes," Park said.
Inquiry is taken during a student's first year at Westminster College. This semester-long course is designed to confront and engage students, and is taken in addition to writing and oral communication to make skill and content instruction mutually reinforcing. Cluster courses are taken during the sophomore or junior years at Westminster, and consist of two linked courses taught by at least two faculty from different disciplines to the same group of students.
Park's journal article, "Stigma Management Among the Voluntarily Childless," will be reprinted in the fifth edition of Patricia and Peter Adler's reader, "Constructions of Deviance: Social Power, Context and Interaction," a widely adopted textbook in sociology of deviance classes.
Park, who has been with Westminster College since 1993, earned her undergraduate degree from Colgate University, and her master's and Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Westminster College Offers Summer Fitness Programs
Westminster College is offering a series of summer fitness programs that are open to the public.
The program is broken into three sessions: Session one runs June 13-July 8; session two runs July 11-Aug. 5; and session three runs Aug. 8-Sept. 2.
Beginner Yoga is offered Mondays. This class is an introduction to basic yoga postures to strengthen lower back, abdominal muscles, legs, and upper body.
Power Yoga is offered Tuesdays and Thursdays. This brisk, energetic class provides an excellent workout with strong poses to enhance strength, stamina, and total body/mind harmony.
Pilates is offered Wednesdays. With an emphasis on breathing, core conditioning and body awareness, Pilates is a safe and highly effective way to stretch, strengthen, and streamline the body without building bulk or stressing joints.
The instructor for all classes is Kathy Birkholz. All classes are held in the Down Under, located in the basement of Eichenhauer Hall.

Bleasby Colloquium Continues with Poetry Reading
Poet Jeredith Merrin will read and discuss her poetry at the Bleasby Colloquium Thursday, April 6, at 7 p.m. in the Sabastian Mueller Theater located in the McKelvey Campus Center.
Merrin is the author of two collections of poetry, "Shift," released in 1996, and "Bat Ode" released in 2001, from the University of Chicago Press Phoenix Poets Series. She has also published a book of criticism, "Marianne Moore, Elizabeth Bishop and the Uses of Tradition," and a number of essays and reviews appear in publications such as "The Southern Review." She is currently writing two more books "Mon Age," a new collection of poetry, and "Of Two Minds," a collection of essays on poets and poetry.

This colloquium is the fifth in a series of events scheduled for the George Bleasby Colloquia, a series of literary events in honor of Dr. Bleasby, who chaired the Department of English at Westminster from 1954-75.

Nationally-Recognized Authority on DNA to Speak at Westminster College
