NEW WILMINGTON, PA – An orchestral piece composed by Dr. Daniel Perttu, a Westminster College music professor, will be performed by the Firelands Symphony Orchestra this weekend.
The concert — Romance of the Stage and Screen — will feature Perttu’s overture “To Spring” and will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Sandusky State Theatre in Sandusky, Ohio. The orchestra is under the direction of conductor Carl Topilow.
Inspired by William Blake’s poem, Perttu’s “To Spring” has been hailed as a “majestic” and “lyrical” piece that blends “mystery, action and excitement.” It was recorded by the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra on the PAMRA Recordings label.
Perttu, associate professor of music and chair of the Westminster’s School of Music, joined the Westminster faculty in 2008. He earned an undergraduate degree from Williams College, two master’s degrees from Kent State University, and doctorate from Ohio State University. His compositions have been performed nationally and internationally by orchestras and in arts festivals, conferences, and solo recitals
Tickets can be purchased by calling 419-621-4800, visiting www.firelandssymphony.com/tickets or in the theater lobby an hour prior to the show.
