Westminster College Students Foster Meaningful Connections with Top Companies, April 9

Drawing a larger crowd each year, Westminster College’s semi-annual Professional Networking Symposium is expecting to host over 400 alumni, students and guests at this semester’s celebration on April 9.

At 8 a.m., registration, career fair and networking session will begin in Orr Auditorium Lobby and the Foster Art Gallery, with 9:45 a.m. opening remarks in Beeghly Theater given by symposium co-founders, Dr. Christie Grewe Nelson ’06, post doctoral associate, CCICADA Rutgers University, and Dr. Daniel Fischmar, professor of economics, Westminster College.

“Because of the opportunities for meaningful connections between alumni and students, and the diversity of the breakout sessions, the Professional Networking Symposium is truly unique,” said Katy DeMedal, director of the Career Center.

Guests have the opportunity to choose from 24 specialty panels during three concurrent sessions throughout Patterson Hall, Beeghly Theater, and the McKelvey Campus Center. Panels include:

Accounting and Finance, Big Data Tutorial, Broadcasting, Early Career Development, Educational Networking, English, Graduate School, JFS Wealth Advisors Retirement Planning Tutorial, Law, Music Education, Music Entrepreneurship, Music Professionals, PNC, Pre-Professional Health School, Public Relations, Sales and Marketing, Secondary Education, Social Sciences and Humanities, Technology Roundtable, Tiny House Student Panel, UPMC, Ving by Educational Tutorial, Washington D.C., and Working Scientists

Westminster is expecting representation from close to 85 companies, including but not limited to: Alcoa, BNY Mellon, Carnegie Library, Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Clinic, Duquesne University, eiNetwork, Fed Ex Ground, Highmark, IBM Watson, Mercyhurst University, Moody’s, Penn State University, Rutgers University, Sherwin Williams, and various local school districts.

The Professional Networking Symposium was founded and is co-chaired by Dr. Fischmar, Dr. Nelson, and Ben Nelson '06, vice president, Moody's Corporation.
