Westminster College has announced plans for the addition of women's lacrosse as a varsity sport for the 2016-17 academic year. The addition of women's lacrosse increases the number of Westminster's varsity sports to 22. Women's lacrosse is a spring sport.

"The addition of lacrosse to our portfolio of athletic offerings reflects the growth of the sport nationally and increasing interest in it by both current and prospective students," Westminster President Richard Dorman said.  "As the Presidents Athletic Conference (PAC) continues to see new varsity lacrosse programs established at member colleges, Westminster is pleased to be the next entry into this fast and exciting sport."

Women's lacrosse has been offered as a club sport at Westminster the past three years.

In the fall of 2014, the PAC and the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) aligned to create the single-sport Ohio River Lacrosse Conferences (ORLC & ORWLC) for both men and women.  Each conference began official conference play in the spring of 2015.

Westminster announced the addition men's lacrosse in November of 2015 and the College will play its first official men's game this spring on March 2 at home against Hilbert College (NY).

The Titans will be eligible for conference play right away for their respective men's and women's seasons. Current PAC members Saint Vincent College, Thiel College and Washington & Jefferson College sponsor both men's and women's varsity lacrosse programs, with Bethany College sponsoring a men's program and Waynesburg University and Thomas More College a women's program. In addition, five HCAC member schools will compete in the ORLWC, while four HCAC member schools will compete in the ORLC.

The search for a new head women's lacrosse coach will begin immediately.
