Westminster College announces the 26th Annual Independence Day Celebration on Friday, July 3, at Brittain Lake. The event is free and open to the public.

At 7:30 p.m., the River City Brass Band will present a variety of musical selections, with an emphasis on patriotic collections. At 9 p.m., the evening will conclude with a fireworks display provided by Pyrotecnico. Lauren Thayer, a senior music major, is singing the National Anthem.

Thayer is a daughter of Karen Winter of Derry, Pa. and a graduate of Derry Area High School.

Over 6,000 people are expected to attend. Early arrival is suggested for this family-friendly event and attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs for seating, as well as picnic baskets and refreshments. Food vendors will be on site. In case of light rain, the concert will be held in Anderson Amphitheater.

Top sponsors of this year’s event are UPMC (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center) and the Knox Memorial Trust Fund.
