Westminster College music education and music performance majors William McCullough and Stephanie Nicholson finished in first and second place, respectively, in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) competition.

"Each singer prepares three selections, which include English and foreign language arts songs and arias for his or her particular category," said Dr. Anne Bentz, assistant professor of music at Westminster College.  "Bill sang Mondnacht by Robert Schumann, which gave him first place in the sophomore men's category. Stephanie sang Mimi's aria from La Boheme by Giacomo Puccini for her final round, which gave her second place in the senior women's category."

"The NATS is active nationally and internationally sponsoring competitions, seminars, and workshops for its members," Bentz said.  "A teacher must be a member of the organization in order for his or her students to compete.  The categories range from high school to college to advanced master's candidates, and adults."

McCullough is a son of William and Suzanne McCullough, DuBois, and a graduate of DuBois Area High School.

Nicholson is a daughter of Marvin and Sharon Nicholson, Medina, Ohio, and a graduate of Medina High School.
