Westminster College Students Present Research at the Northeast Ohio Undergraduate Sociology Symposium

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Five Westminster College students presented research at the Northeast Ohio Undergraduate Sociology Symposium at Kent State University in March. The students attended the conference with Dr. Kristin Park, Westminster professor of sociology and chair of the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice Studies.

Student Tyler Banks presented "`Wearing Many Hats:´ Role Strain Among Juvenile Probation Officers." Banks' adviser was Dr. Rena Zito, assistant professor of sociology and criminal justice studies. Banks, a senior sociology/criminal justice major, is a son of Lori Banks, Meadville, and a graduate of Meadville Area High School.

Garrett Conn presented "A Content Analysis of Terrorism's Depiction in Today's Popular Media." Conn's advisers were Park and Dr. Kristenne Robison, assistant professor of sociology and criminal justice studies. Conn, a senior sociology/criminal justice major, is a son of Leland and Deborah Conn of Wintersville, Ohio, and a graduate of Indian Creek High School.

Gabrielle Elisco presented "Economic, Family and Religious Lenses used to Interpret Community Life." Park and Robison served as Elisco's advisers. Elisco, a senior sociology major, is a daughter of Deborah Elisco and Dennis Elisco, New Castle, and a graduate of Neshannock High School.

Tricia Johnston presented "`Eight in the Gate:´Organizational Impact of Prisons on Correctional Officers." Park and Robison also served as Johnston's advisers. Johnston, a senior sociology/criminal justice major, is a daughter of Korryn Berlin of Tionesta and a graduate of West Forest High School.

Kaitlin Kio presented "Fear of Crime: The Gendered Effects of Violent Television Exposure." Zito served as Kio's adviser. Kio, a senior criminal justice studies major, is a daughter of Tracy and Vicky Kio and a graduate of Port Allegany High School.
