NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Brenda Swart, Westminster College Spanish lecturer, presented at the III Congreso Internacional de Investigaciones Literarias June 18-21 at the Universidad Veracruzana in Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico.
During a round table discussion where participants presented research on different aspects of migration portrayed in contemporary Mexican literature, Swart presented a chapter of her master's thesis, "Santitos: (Trans)National Identity in Transit." The chapter examines how migration is portrayed in the novel Santitos (Little Saints).
Swart is currently working on extending her research to other contemporary Mexican novels written by women from the north of Mexico, and was able to exchange valuable information during the conference with other researchers from the U.S., Mexico, and Sweden.
Swart, who joined the faculty in 2009, earned undergraduate and master's degrees from the University of Houston.
