NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Three Westminster College faculty attended the Conference on Undergraduate Research (CUR) annual business meeting as CUR councilors June 20-22 at Chapman University in Orange County, Calif.

According to the CUR website, "The mission of the Council on Undergraduate Research is to support and promote high-quality undergraduate student-faculty collaborative research and scholarship. CUR believes that faculty members enhance their teaching and contribution to society by remaining active in research and by involving undergraduates in research."

CUR was founded more than 30 years ago by a group of chemists from private liberal arts colleges who wanted to provide information about research that was being conducted at liberal arts colleges by faculty in collaboration with students. In the last three decades CUR has grown to include all disciplines and members include 7,000 individuals and more than 600 colleges and universities. CUR councilors are elected to 3-year terms and are part of the governing body of the organization.

Dr. Terri L. Lenox, professor of computer science and chair of the mathematics and computer science department, serves as councilor for the CUR math and computer science division. Lenox, who joined the faculty in 1999, earned her undergraduate degree from Grove City College and master's degree and Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh. Her interests include psychology of the internet and computer supported cooperative work.

Dr. Karen K. Resendes, assistant professor of biology, serves as councilor for the biology division. Resendes, who has been with Westminster since 2009, earned her undergraduate degree from Brown University and her Ph.D. from the College of William and Mary. She has a strong interest in educational research, and her studies involve comparing both majors and non-majors introductory biology courses at small liberal arts schools.

Dr. Sandra K. Webster, professor of psychology, serves as the CUR councilor for the psychology division. Webster, who has been with Westminster since 1983, earned her undergraduate and master's degrees and a Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.  She specializes in research and design and is the author of the textbook Hand in Hand: Research Design and Statistics for Behavioral Sciences.
