Celebrity Series Announces 2012-2013 Season

Posted on Friday, May 11, 2012

Westminster College's Celebrity Series announced its 2012-2013 season, which includes concerts by LeAnn Rimes and Straight No Chaser and the perennial family favorite, A Christmas Carol.

The Midtown Men, sponsored by Jameson Health System, will kick off the season Thursday, Sept. 13.  Four stars from the original cast of Jersey Boys - Christian Hoff, Michael Longoria, Daniel Reichard, and J. Robert Spencer - celebrate the music of the 1960s with classic songs made famous by the Beatles, the Beach Boys, Motown, The Four Seasons, and others.

LeAnn Rimes, sponsored by Springfield Restaurant Group, is on tap for Thursday, Oct. 11.  With her first national hit at the age of 13, she became the youngest Grammy winner and the first country recording artist to earn "Best New Artist."  The multiple-award-winning singer/songwriter will share audience favorites in her all-acoustic show.

Straight No Chaser, sponsored by First National Bank, is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 29.  The 10-man a cappella group is reinventing the idea of unaccompanied vocals on the modern pop landscape with a number of national television appearances and two successful holiday releases.

A Christmas Carol returns to Westminster Friday, Dec. 14, in honor of Charles Dickens' 200th birthday.  The national touring production of the family holiday classic is sponsored by Giant Eagle.

Jim Brickman Presents "Yesterday Once More: A Musical Tribute to the Carpenters" will wrap up the season Saturday, April 27, 2013.  Sponsored by Huntington Bank, the show includes Brickman's arrangements of the popular 1970s music that a generation fell in love with and fell in love to.  Featured vocalists Joanna Jahn, Jen Burleigh-Bentz, and John Trones will be accompanied by a four-piece band.

All shows are at 7:30 p.m. in Orr Auditorium.  Season subscriptions are currently on sale and single-show tickets may be pre-ordered.

A special Celebrity Series for Kids show, The Velveteen Rabbit, is slated for Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at 6:30 p.m. and is not part of the season subscription.  Based on Margery Williams' much-loved literary classic, the production is designed for ages four through fourth grade but will delight family members of all ages.  Enchantment Theatre Company brings the tale of love and devotion to life with an original musical score, life-sized puppets, masks, and magic.  Sponsors for this program include Dr. Richard Ribarevski, D.M.D.; Family Medical Care of Lawrence County's Dr. James L. Gardner III, M.D., Dr. Mary C. Tanyel, M.D., and Peggy McAnlis, C.R.N.P.; PCT Health Network, Inc. and Dr. Pek C. Teh; Park Inn by Radisson; the Resch Foundation; The Grable Foundation; and Westminster's Drinko Center for Experiential Learning.
