Seven Westminster College mathematics majors and their faculty advisers participated in the 14th annual regional Student Paper Meeting Feb. 25 at Youngstown (Ohio) State University.

The conference, hosted by the Ohio XI Chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon mathematics honor society, gave undergraduate students the opportunity to present results of their projects and research and listen to presentations of interesting topics by other undergraduates from across the region.

Gregory Clark presented "Famous Sequences and Euclidean Algorithm Step Sizes."  His work was advised by Dr. Natacha Fontes-Merz, associate professor.

Emily Dolsak's presentation, "A Statistical Analysis of the Free Throw," was advised by Dr. Carolyn Cuff, professor.

Coty Hainsey presented "A Look at Benford's Law," work that was supervised by Dr. David Offner, assistant professor.

Rachel Legg spoke on "Can You Think Out of the Box?"  Her research was advised by Fontes-Merz.

Richard Ligo's paper, "Diagonal Diagrams: An Interesting Representation for a Specific Class of Links," was advised by Dr. Jeffrey Boerner, assistant professor.

Robert Rhodes presented "A Markov Chain Model for Predicting Wins in Baseball."  His project was supervised by Boerner and Offner.

Chelsea Schrock spoke on "How to Hang with High Rollers," a project advised by Offner.

In addition to Boerner, Fontes-Merz, and Offner, additional Westminster faculty attending were Dr. Pamela Richardson, assistant professor, and Dr. Barbara Faires, professor emerita and secretary of the Mathematical Association of America.

Funding support for the conference was provided by the National Science Foundation-Mathematics Association of America Regional Mathematics Conferences grant committee.
