Dr. SoYoung Kang, Westminster College assistant professor of education, recently presented talks on Korean culture to students in the Wilmington Area School District.

Her presentation included a general overview of Korea, including the capital city, population, and flag; language and literature; traditional clothing and instruments; food and utensils, including different kinds of chopsticks and how to use them; manners; and ways of greeting people.

Kang gave presentations to four groups of sixth-graders for Asian Culture Day June 3. She talked about the differences between China, Japan, and Korea, including the language and the culture, and explained the influence of Confucianism in Asia.

Kang, who joined the Westminster faculty in 2007, earned an undergraduate degree from Korea University and master's and Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee. She is a co-editor and author of a chapter in Poverty, Education and Development.
