College to Induct Students into Sociology Honor Society

Posted on Wednesday, March 31, 2010

Three Westminster students will be inducted into Alpha Kappa Delta, the international sociology honor society, Wednesday, April 7, in the Witherspoon Rooms of the McKelvey Campus Center.

Alan Baldwin, a junior sociology major, is a son of Jacqueline Baldwin of Olanta and a graduate of Clearfield Area High School.

Emileigh Drylie, a senior elementary education and intercultural studies major, is a daughter of Robert and Deanna Drylie of Oakmont and a graduate of Riverview High School.

Brett Glavey, a junior sociology major, is a son of Richard and Jeanne Glavey of Sharpsville and a graduate of Sharpsville High School.

The evening's speaker is Wendy Parker, a Ph.D. candidate at Syracuse University, who will speak on "Trajectories of Children's Health: Inequality and the Impact of Parental Resources." Her talk is scheduled for 7 p.m., following the induction banquet. The program is free and open to the public.

Parker's project builds on a body of research that demonstrates the childhood origins of adult health disparities and links early-life resources parents provide to their children to their physical health trajectories during childhood.
