Students Received Drinko Grants to Attend Intercollegiate Band

Eight students received travel/presentation grants from Westminster College's Drinko Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning to attend the Pennsylvania Intercollegiate Band March 12-14 in West Chester.

Katie DiCola, a junior psychology and music major, is a daughter of Linda Beraduce and Thomas DiCola, both of Boardman, Ohio, and a graduate of Boardman High School.

Patrick Dolan, a junior music performance major, is a son of Gerard and Christine Dolan of North Wales and a graduate of Roman Catholic High School.

Stephen Flory, a sophomore music education major, is a son of Thomas and Mary Flory of Export and a graduate of Franklin Regional High School.

Elizabeth Gillum, a junior elementary education major, is a daughter of George and Bette Gillum of Allison Park and a graduate of Hampton High School.

Joseph Ohodnicki, a senior music education major, is a son of Paul and Marie Ohodnicki of East Pittsburgh and a graduate of Woodland Hills High School.

Sarah Ortz, a senior music education major, is a daughter of William and Connie Ortz of Petersburg, Ohio, and a graduate of Springfield Local High School.

Jennie Smith, a senior music and Christian education major, is a daughter of Kendall and Julia Smith of Trophy Club, Texas, and a graduate of Western Hills High School.

Erin Thompson, a senior music education major, is a daughter of Thomas and Linda Thompson of Imperial and a graduate of West Allegheny High School.

The students participate in a number of instrumental groups and ensembles under the direction of Dr. R. Tad Greig, associate professor, director of bands, and chair of Westminster's Department of Music.

The Drinko Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning was created to enrich undergraduate education at Westminster through advancing world-class teaching as well as by participating in collaborations that address community and regional needs including strengthening K-12 education. The Undergraduate Research Initiative provides funding for students to conduct research and to present their research at regional and national conferences.
