Westminster College is seeking environmental research, projects and creative work from high school and college students for the 2026 Student Symposium on the Environment.
Students from all disciplines, ranging from high school through graduate school, are encouraged to submit work related to the environment or natural world. Submissions may include research posters, artwork, oral presentations, short videos, performances and other creative projects.
The symposium will feature an in-person event Thursday, Dec. 3, at Westminster College’s McKelvey Campus Center. A poster session featuring research posters, table displays, creative works and a photo gallery will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., followed by oral presentations and video shorts at 7:30 p.m.
Oral presenters will have 12 minutes, followed by a three-minute question-and-answer period, to share their work with an audience of students and professionals interested in environmental issues.
Participants must submit an abstract highlighting their project. At the in-person event, volunteer judges will evaluate submissions, with cash prizes awards in multiple categories.
A virtual showcase will be held Nov. 30 through Dec. 2, featuring environmental photography, artwork and video shorts. The showcase will be hosted on a dedicated YouTube channel, where viewers can use the comments feature to engage with student presenters.
Submissions are due Thursday, Nov. 19. Applicants will be notified of acceptance by Wednesday, Nov. 25. To submit a project or learn more about submission requirements, visit westminster.edu/academics/center-for-environment/environmental-symposium/symposium-submission.cfm.
The symposium is sponsored by the Westminster College Center for the Environment and the Slippery Rock Watershed Coalition.
