Foster Art Gallery painting exhibit features self-expression with color

Share on:

"Searching...," an exhibition of paintings by artist Lauren Barrett, will be on display at Westminster College’s Foster Art Gallery in Patterson Hall from Monday, Nov. 2, through Friday, Dec. 4.

"I create based upon instinct. My paintings are reflections of how I move my body and how my brain processes while creating," said Barrett. "My show, “Searching...,” is a collection of my own reactions and experimentation with self-expression and color relationships."

A recent graduate of Youngstown State University, Barrett is currently a graduate student at Carnegie Mellon University’s Entertainment Technology Center. The team-based program strategically places students with different artistic strengths to collaborate on projects.

"Each piece in this exhibit relies upon an artistic language that I have been developing for the past two years. From there, my work becomes an ever-evolving puzzle that I am trying to solve by rearranging the pieces. That task is not so easy," said Barrett "As much as I try, I don’t ever have a full idea of what the final product will be. The unknown and learning from it are crucial to my creation process.

The exhibition is free and open to the public. The Foster Art Gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
