Conservation biologist, writer and Aldo Leopold biographer Dr. Curt Meine will deliver a public lecture—“The Soul of the Land: Aldo Leopold and a Deeper Connection to Nature”—at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5 in the Dietz Sullivan Lecture Hall of Hoyt Science Center on the College campus.

Meine, a Senior Fellow with the Aldo Leopold Foundation, a research associate with the International Crane Foundation and a Senior Fellow with the Center for Humans and Nature, is internationally recognized for his scholarship on environmental ethics and the history of conservation. He authored “Aldo Leopold: His Life and Work” and appeared as the onscreen guide in the Emmy Award-winning documentary film “Green Fire:  Aldo Leopold and a Land Ethic for Our Time.”

Meine’s scholarship and storytelling illuminate the deep connections between people and the land, and his interdisciplinary background—spanning natural sciences, film studies, history, literature, and environmental ethics—offers a rich perspective on today’s conservation challenges.

Aldo Leopold, often called the father of modern wildlife ecology and modern conservation, penned “A Sand County Almanac,” a foundational text in American conservation that explores the relationship between humans and the natural world.

The event is presented in partnership with the Harms Center for the Environment at Westminster College and the New Castle Public Library as part of the library’s fall cultural series, “Our Interconnected World.”

This lecture is free and open to the public. Registration is not required but appreciated and can be made at http://bit.ly/47NC5Nh.
