Westminster College Celebrity Series announces 2024-2025 season

The Westminster College Celebrity Series has announced its 2024-2025 season, which includes concerts by Abbamania and a Christmas concert with The Tenors. All shows begin at 7:30 p.m. and will take place in the Will W. Orr Auditorium on the Westminster College campus.

The Doo Wop Project: A New Doo will start the season on Saturday, Sept. 21, with classic favorites and contemporary hits with a doo-wop twist. Featuring the stars of Broadway shows like “Motown: The Musical” and “Jersey Boys,” this dynamic, rave-reviewed celebration of music has a new line-up starring five talented Broadway stars with their all-star band. This exciting new show features classic doo-wop hits like “16 Candles” and “In the Still of the Night,” as well as doo-wop versions of contemporary hits like Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” and Garth Brooks’ “Friends in Low Places.” It will be an unforgettable evening showcasing some of the greatest music in American pop and rock history.  

Abbamania and Night Fever will perform on Friday, Nov. 1, bringing the disco era to stage. Abbamania, renowned as one of the world’s best ABBA productions, will take you on a journey with their renditions of ABBA’s chart-toppers like “Dancing Queen” and “Mamma Mia.” They’ll have everyone singing along to the iconic melodies all evening. Night Fever will perform as the Bee Gees with their soulful harmonies and legendary hits like “Stayin’ Alive,” “How Deep Is Your Love” and “You Should Be Dancing.” Get ready for a night of non-stop dance classics. The show is sponsored by UPMC Jameson and UPMC Horizon.

Christmas with The Tenors, sponsored by the Springfield Restaurant Group, brings the holiday spirit to the stage on Wednesday, Dec. 18. The Tenors are an international vocal group who share their world-renowned talent through powerful songs, outstanding harmonies and undeniable charm. This award-winning and multi-platinum selling band has achieved international success, performing thousands of live shows and hundreds of national and international TV appearances on five continents. They perform operatic pop music with original songs and tributes that range from new songs like “Miracle” and “Christmas Miracle” to classics such as “The Prayer” and “Hallelujah.” Christmas with The Tenors includes everything from Sia’s “Snowman” and Irving Berlin’s “I’ve Got My Love to Keep Me Warm” to revisiting the seasonal classic “Christmas Time is Here” from the 1965 animated special, “A Charlie Brown Christmas.” It will be an unforgettable evening capturing the spirit of the season.

Chris Mann, sponsored by Shenango on the Green, will perform his show, “Bennett: From Gershwin to Gaga,” on Saturday, March 29, 2025. This bombastic evening will celebrate the best of jazz, pop, parody and Broadway. Mann, the viral comedy sensation and star of NBC’s “The Voice” and “The Phantom of the Opera” delivers intoxicating arrangements of classics that have critics hailing him as “one of the best male vocalists in the world” for an evening of entertainment. The show will celebrate the long and diverse career of Tony Bennett whose music reaches every generation and proves that, truly, “love is here to stay.”  

Back by popular demand, Neil Berg’s 50 Years of Rock and Roll Part 3, sponsored by Giant Eagle and North Memorial Hospital, closes the season on Saturday, May 3, 2025. From the birth of rock and roll in the 1940s to the glory years of the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s, and all the way through the ‘80s MTV era, composer/lyricist Neil Berg pays tribute to the fascinating stories and groundbreaking music of everyone’s favorite genre. With a cast of Broadway headliners and rock and roll icons, this star-studded show pays tribute to five decades of legends, from Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley to The Who, Aerosmith, Springsteen, Journey and more.
