‘Campus That Built Me’ fundraising campaign honors Westminster employees

From the moment most students step on campus, their Westminster College experience is enriched by the philanthropic support of others. And now students and alumni have the opportunity to pay it forward in a 10-day fundraising campaign.

The Campus That Built Me campaign—running from April 26 to May 6—asks current students and alumni to consider thanking a faculty or staff member who helped “build” them by making a small gift in that person’s honor.

Any Westminster College employee who has made an impact—whether it is a favorite professor, coach or staff member—can be recognized. Gifts, which can be made in any amount, can benefit a chosen campus program or department or they can be assigned wherever funds are most needed.

“We think the Campus That Built Me campaign is a wonderful opportunity for students to really demonstrate part of Westminster’s mission of developing moral and ethical commitments and helping to build responsible world citizens,” said Westminster College Senior Director of Alumni Engagement Kara Montgomery. “The opportunity to pay it forward, individually, to those who have helped shape them, makes a collective impact on the WE in Westminster and contributes to the warm and loving environment of which we have all grown accustomed.”

Sophomore Baylee Horvath, a marketing business administration/marketing and professional sales double major from Murrysville, Pa., made a contribution to the campaign in honor of her academic adviser, Dr. Robert Zullo, associate professor of sports management.

“Dr. Zullo has helped me throughout the two years I have been at Westminster by checking in on me weekly, helping me with networking opportunities and always congratulating me on my accomplishments,” said Horvath. “This campaign is very meaningful because it allows students to create a personalized thank you message to a professor or staff member for all that they have done for us as students.”

Jayneil Latham, a first-year computer science major from Pittsburgh, chose to honor Westminster College Director of Admissions Brad Tokar with his donation.

“I believe it is important to show people who have impacted you greatly how much you appreciate them. Mr. Tokar has impacted many aspects of my life—not just for school, but also as a man,” Latham said.
