Westminster College Announces National History Day Winners

Over 100 students in grades 6-12 from a variety of public and private schools in Lawrence, Mercer, Butler, Clarion, and Venango counties competed in National History Day at Westminster College on Thursday, March 15

Students from the following schools and districts participated: Grove City Area, Keystone, Lakeview, Neshannock Township, Sharpsville Area, Holy Sepulcher Catholic School (Butler), Saint Kilian Parish School (Cranberry Township),  Saint Michael School (Greenville), and Saint Patrick School (Franklin).

Students expressed their interpretations of this year's theme, “Conflict and Compromise in History," by competing in categories including historical papers, documentaries, exhibits, performances, and websites.

Westminster students, faculty, and staff served as judges. The top three entries in each category are eligible to compete at the National History Day in Pennsylvania contest on May 11 and 12 at Carlisle High School.

Butler County, PA

Ellie Armitage of Saint Kilian Parish School received second place in the junior paper category for the project "The Battle to Women’s Suffrage".

Edna Arredondo, Gracie Callwood, Mia Caruso, and Phoebe Waldenville of Holy Sepulcher Catholic School received second place in the junior group exhibit category for their project "Salem Witch Trials".

Maddie Dietrich, Katherine Riley, and Anabel Stickney of Holy Sepulcher Catholic School received first place in the junior group exhibit category for their project "George Washington and the French and Indian War".

David Krainbucher of Holy Sepulcher Catholic School received third place in the junior individual exhibit category for the project "The Stamp Act Conflict".

Andrew Ubinger of Holy Sepulcher Catholic School received first place in the junior individual exhibit category for the project "Truman vs MacArthur: Two Men Fighting Each Other to Win the Same War".

Lawrence County, PA

Aislinn Andrews, Nico Johnson, and Lacy Salomon of Neshannock High School received third place in the senior group exhibit category for their project "Galileo Galilei".

Brady Atwell of Neshhannock High School received first place in the senior individual exhibit category for the project "A Revolution Ignited by Taxation: The American Colonials Take a Stand".

Justin Banko, Michael Benson, and Quinn Hilton of Neshannock High School received first place in the senior group website category for their project "The Munich Agreement".

Grace Beal, Jesse Fehrs, Josh Medure, and Preston Turk of Neshannock High School received first place in the senior group exhibit category for their project "The Cuban Missile Crisis".

Brianna Hale and Abigail Shaner of Neshannock High School received second place in the senior group website category for their project "Oyer & Terminer: The Salem Witchcraft Trials".

Hayley Micco and Charles Mitteff  of Neshannock High School received first place in the senior group documentary category for their project "How Rock Music Clashed and Influenced Society".

Nick Rozzi and Rebekah Seamans of Neshannock High School received second place in the senior group exhibit category for their project "D-Day: The Invasion of Normandy"

Mercer County, PA

Carly Amon, Josh Grim, Zoe Proper, Marissa Reither, and  Adelle Sealand  of Lakeview Middle School received first place in the junior group performance category for their project "Building Bridges".

Fisher Anderson of Grove City Middle School received second place in the junior individual documentary category for the project "No Taxation Without Representation".

Tessa Carlin of Sharpsville Area High School received first place in the senior paper category for the project "Constitutional Rights vs. War Hysteria: Japanese Internment During WWII".

Cassandra Dancak and Kylee Rabich of Sharpsville Middle School received first place in the junior group website category for their project "World War II".

Peyton Haroldson, Maddox O’Neill, and Braden Scarvel of Sharpsville Middle School received third place in the junior group documentary category for their project "They Thought It Could Last"

Anna Harpst of Saint Michael School received first place in the junior individual documentary category for the project "The Bald Eagle: Conflict That Cause Life-Changing Compromise".

Shae Hudson of Lakeview High School received third place in the senior paper category for the project "The Chronicles of Alois".

Julianne Johnson and Halle Murcko of Saint Michael School received first place in the junior group documentary category for their project "Galileo Galilei vs the Catholic Church".

Victoria Kimpan of Sharpsville Middle School received second place in the junior individual exhibit category for the project "The Panama Canal".

Jacob Matta of Sharpsville Area High School received second place in the senior paper category for the project "A Tale of Conflict and Compromise: The United States, Russia, and the Balkans".

Brooke Misavage and Nathan Murrin of Sharpsville Middle School received third place in the junior group exhibit category for their project "The Great Compromise".

Alaina Suhar and Julia Toth of Saint Michael School received second place in the junior group documentary category for their project "The Black Women of NASA".

Alana Utlak of Saint Michael School received third place in the junior individual documentary category for the project "The Salem Witch Trials".

Rachel Varga of Saint Michael School received first place in the junior individual website category for the project "The Iconic Duo That Changed Broadway History Forever".

Jude Yurisic of Saint Michael School received first place in the junior paper category for the project "Rogers and Hammerstein: From Lighthearted Musicals to Serious Social Issues".
