Westminster College was named one of the top 20 small colleges in the nation to offer the “best deal” for STEM degrees, according to Great College Deals.

In the ranking, points were awarded based on the presence of a wide range of science, technology, engineering, and math degrees, advanced laboratory facilities, STEM-related internships, scholarship options, and any additional special features that add value for a student beginning their STEM field career.

“Great College Deals specifically highlighted Westminster’s newest engineering physics major,” said Dr. Thomas H. Stein, vice president for enrollment and marketing. “This major, along with our lineup of additional STEM-focused majors, are being nationally recognized for their powerful impact on the future of our students.”

The ranking was created using information from the National Center for Education Statistics' College Navigator database. In the list of the 20 Best Deals on Small Colleges for STEM, Great Deals selected small colleges with a lower net price than similar institutions of this size and academic focus.

“My time at Westminster has prepared me for working in a lab setting,” said Brad Gibbons, senior chemistry major. “The research I’m doing right now shows potential graduate schools that I’m able to work in a lab and not just a classroom.”

The top 20 STEM colleges scored the highest among institutions with a maximum enrollment of 6,000 students and a net price of $32,000 or less.

“The biology program at Westminster has exposed me to a wide variety of classes to broaden my biological and overall knowledge,” said Meredith Mishler, senior biology major. “It’s awesome to invest so much time in something and work to get results. My experience at Westminster as a whole has been something I couldn’t have gotten at a larger university because of my close relationships with my professors.”
