The Westminster College Wind Ensemble will perform a concert Friday, March 5, at 7:30 p.m. in Orr Auditorium.

Under the direction of Dr. R. Tad Greig, the ensemble will perform a wide variety of music including works by Ron Nelson, Percy Grainger, and modern works by Eric Whitacre and James Bonney.

"'Cloudburst' by Eric Whitacre utilizes common instruments, singing and nontraditional band instruments such as handbells, glass chimes, and more to create the effect of a thunderstorm right in the auditorium," Greig said. "'Chaos Theory' by James Bonney was premiered just two years ago in Nevada and will be a regional premier. It's a composition for electric guitar and wind ensemble. The guitar will play in a virtuosic style, but with a heavy metal sound. We continue to expose our students to the finest in established wind band literature, while exploring new and intriguing works."

Guest artists in the concert include the Westminster College Faculty Woodwind Quintet, and featured soloist and faculty member Mark Antonich on the guitar.

The Westminster College Wind Ensemble was chosen to perform at this year's Pennsylvania Music Educators Convention in Erie in April. They will also be a part of a conference session on warm-up techniques conducted by Greig.

"I am very proud of our student musicians and what they have achieved," Greig said.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Greig at (724) 946-7279 or e-mail greigrt@westminster.edu.
