The second Mathematics Coaches Clinic will be offered at Westminster College Thursday, May 13, from 4-6 p.m. in the McKelvey Campus Center.
The event, which is sponsored by the Westminster College Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning and the Tri-State Area School Study Council, is open to all mathematics teachers, administrators department heads, and all interested education personnel.
The agenda includes three topics: 1) teaching fractions; 2) the role of the mathematics coach; and 3) calculators. Topic for the third meeting will be chosen during this event. In general, all clinics will focus on curriculum, instruction and student assessment issues in mathematics.
The first Mathematics Coaches Clinic in March was attended by 39 teachers, administrators, and higher education instructors, who shared information about the present status of curriculum and instructional strategies to improve student performance in mathematics. Head Coach for the clinic was Tim LaVan of Oil City School District, who shared his recent experiences as a member of the State Mathematics Committee.
