NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.  --  Two Westminster College senior chemistry majors, Jacklyn Gates and Emily Stull, recently presented their posters at the National American Chemical Society Meeting held in Anaheim, Cal.

Gates poster is titled "Comparison of Particle Size and Morphology of Lutetium Oxide Formed via Precipitation Stripping Versus Traditional Stripping Methods."  Gates is a daughter of Scott and Constance Gates of Meadville, and a graduate of Meadville Area High School.

Stull's poster is titled "Analysis of Ephedra and Non-Ephedra based Herbal Supplements: Effects on the Medabolic Rate in Mice and the Quantification of Active Ingredients."  Stull is a daughter of Duane and Nancy Stull of Scottdale, and a graduate of Southmoreland High School.

The students traveled with Dr. Helen Boylan, assistant professor of chemistry at Westminster, who was an invited speaker at the meeting.  Boylan presented an oral report in the Younger Chemists Committee session on career and development.  Her talk was titled, "Teaching in the Small College Setting: Opportunities and Challenges in Academia."  Boylan, who has been teaching at Westminster since 2001, earned her undergraduate degree at Westminster, and her Ph.D. from Duquesne University.
