The Westminster College Preschool teamed with members of the Westminster Psychology Club and Mortar Board to raise funds for books lost during the recent hurricanes.
"Each preschool child and Psychology Club members were each asked to donate 50 cents, which insures the delivery of one book," said Dr. Mandy Medvin, professor and Gibson-Drinko distinguished chair of psychology. "Mortar Board, as part of its emphasis on literacy, will be donating their funds from Turkey Day to this effort."
All monies collected will be donated to the Hurricane Book Relief Fund.
"We at the Preschool Lab chose this project to help our children understand the value of books, and that lost books can be replaced," Medvin said. "We are delighted to see this expand into a campus-wide effort."
Donations can be made to the Hurricane Book Relief through the Website http://www.firstbook.org or mailed to First Book, 1319 F Street, Suite 1000, Washington, D.C. 20004-1155.
